We are delighted to announce that Gordon Lessells has been elected by the members of the North Munster region as the incoming President-Elect of the CBAI. In other words, Gordon will take over the Presidency for season 2022/23 after the term of Pat O’Mahony (elected by South Munster to serve for season 2020/21, but deferred to season 2021/22 by the coronavirus interruption which saw sitting President Neil Burke’s term extended by twelve months). Gordon has served both the CBAI and the IBU very diligently in a number of capacities over the years – he has been both Secretary and President of the North Munster region and both Secretary and Treasurer of the IBU. He is also our unofficial prizegiving photographer … so we will be in the market for someone new for that role for 2022/23, when Gordon will be on the other side of the camera resplendent in his CBAI finery! We are sure you will join us in congratulating Gordon on his election and wishing him well for his term of office.

We were also very pleased to see coverage in the Evening Echo recently of a former bridge player, Pat Quillinan, who played most of her bridge in south Dublin but now lives in a nursing home in Kinsale, celebrating her 100th birthday with her family. Both Pat and her late husband Noel were long-standing members of the CBAI. The newspaper coverage does not mention her bridge exploits, unfortunately, but it does give an interesting account of a long and eventful life. Belated congratulations to Pat on achieving the century mark.
