This weekend sees the final home international competition for the season, the Teltscher (Senior Camrose) Trophy in Newport, Wales. Our team is Paul Porteous, Fred Barry, Joan Kenny, Teresa Rigney, Michael McAuliffe, and David Dunne, with NPC Peter Goodman, and they carry the burden of being our last chance of a home international win this season. Ireland has won the Teltscher on three previous occasions, most recently in 2021.

Play starts on Friday night and concludes on Sunday evening, and you can follow the matches on RealBridge (with a 30-minute time delay), which will have video commentators throughout. You’ll find full details of the teams, the format, and the schedule here, and the results will be available here once the competition starts.

Closer to home, we are delighted that this weekend also sees the return of the 4Fun Teams in Westmanstown Sports & Conference Centre, after a long covid-driven gap. This is a very important event within the CBAI calendar, as it introduces our less experienced players, particularly Novices, to team-of-four events in a fun and enjoyable atmosphere. It also allows them to benefit from the guidance and expertise of their more experienced partners; our thanks to all the Master players who give freely of their time in this cause. Of course, it’s also a competition, for the Frank & Brenda Kelly Trophy, so aside from having fun everyone will be trying to win too. We’re delighted to have an entry of almost 30 teams, with nearly all the regions represented. Hopefully, this year’s competition will be the springboard for the 4Fun Teams to return as a truly countrywide event next season. Several regions now hold regional qualifiers, to provide the opportunity for fun, and development, at the local level too. If your region doesn’t do this, have a word with your Regional Committee and see what can be done. And may the best team win in Westmanstown!
