Well done to the Malahide Congress Committee, under the direction of Tom Gilligan, on running an excellent, and well-attended, Congress over the weekend. Thanks also to TDs Huey Daly, Peter Byrne, and Eamon Galligan for ensuring everything went smoothly. The prizewinners in the various categories were:

  • Congress Pairs: Kelan & John O’Connor
  • Area Master Pairs: Mary Breen & Rosaleen Moody
  • Intermediate A Pairs: Lawrence Scott & Des Mollock
  • Intermediate B Pairs: Ben Orocz & David Hoyne
  • Novice Pairs: Lorraine O’Connor & Mary Cahill
  • Mixed Pairs: Teresa Rigney & Luca Crone
  • Congress Teams: Luca Crone, Matthew O’Farrell, Norbert Van Woerkom, Peter Stewart
  • Open Pairs: Michael O’Mahony & Michael Kiernan: Denise & Sheila Walsh

Great to see so many junior players featuring amongst the prizewinners.

And in Altrincham, England, the Irish team won three of their five matches, but could not improve on the third position they occupied after the first weekend of the Camrose Trophy, finishing behind victors England and runner-up the EBU team. Next up in the home international series is the Lady Milne Trophy, to be hosted by Ireland, in the CityNorth Hotel, Gormanstown, from 19-21 April, with all welcome to attend.
