We are sad to report the death of Ellen (Nell) Foley, who was a former President of the Association (1977-78) and Member of the IBU Council (1978-79). Nell passed away peacefully in Tramore on Monday, and was apparently playing bridge online right up until her death. Aside from her national roles, Nell was also a former President of Tramore Bridge Club, and indeed was a great servant of, and influence on, the game throughout the country. She lived at various times in Longford, Abbeyleix, and ultimately Tramore, and was involved in bridge administration in all three areas, serving on a number of regional committees in various roles between 1968 and 2006. With her late husband Conor, she was instrumental in the plan for the creation of the South Eastern and South Midland regions, which had previously been a single entity. She will be missed by her children Deirdre, Emer, Connell, Ronan and ClĂona and their partners, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, her extended family, and of course all her friends from the world of bridge. May she rest in peace.
