Well done to Team Pender (Gilda Pender, Rebecca Brown, Hilary D-L McDonagh, and Ann-Marie Horan-Carroll) who emerged victorious from the trials over the weekend, and will represent Ireland in the Lady Milne Trophy in Northern Ireland in April.
The competition was tight all weekend, with the same two teams battling for top spot as in the IBU’s Women’s Trials earlier in the season. On that occasion, Team Kenny (Joan Kenny, Jeannie Fitzgerald, Teresa Rigney, Siobhan Part) rallied late on to to claim victory, but this time around they sat out the last round, and Team Pender, needing to win their final match to qualify, did enough to win by just over 4 VPs overall.
The team will select a third pair and an NPC in consultation with the International Committee, and we wish them the best of luck in the Lady Milne, which Ireland has never won.
