We are pleased to present the Winter 2025 edition of the Irish Bridge Journal. You’ll find it here.

The Journal features a new double-quiz on this occasion, with cash prizes. To be in with a chance of winning, you need to answer some historical bridge questions posed by editor Enda Murphy (some of them easier than others!) and also answer the Bidding Quiz. The best combined scores will win the prizes. In this edition you will also find, alongside the usual material, a very interesting memoir from Grand Master Donal Garvey on his lifetime in bridge, a piece by Nicola O’Dowd on the first ever Trim Bridge Bash (a mini-congress last summer so successful that it will be repeated, and extended, in 2026), articles by new junior contributors Isabel Burke and Matthew O’Farrell, Melissa Brady’s reflections on stumbling into the trials process, as a result of which she and her partner will line up in the Lady Milne Trials on 2-4 January, and an article by Peter Stewart on an enjoyable visit to the Contra Cup in Romania.

We hope you will enjoy the Journal. Thanks to all our contributors, and, as always, to our designer Sue Power and editor Enda Murphy for their considerable efforts on this publication. Thanks also to our advertisers, especially our two new sponsors Cantor Fitzgerald and Travel Counsellors, without whose assistance producing material of this depth and quality would not be possible. Please support them whenever you can.

As Enda notes, we would really like to feature the CBAI’s clubs more in the Journal. I am aware of several clubs with significant anniversaries upcoming; if they would like to submit pieces on any celebratory functions, including some pictures wherever possible, please, we’ll be delighted to feature them in the Journal if we can.
