Many congratulations to Ciaran Coyne, who has recently ascended to the rank of grandmaster, becoming the 29th member of that elite group within the CBAI.

Ciaran started playing bridge a few months before his final university examinations in Galway. He is a multiple national champion, and has represented Ireland in the Camrose three times with David Walsh and once with Donal MacAonghusa, and also played with Donal in the European Championships. In addition, he has served as NPC of both the IBU Open Team and CBAI Camrose Teams.

Ciaran lives in Cork and is married to Cynthia, with three sons. He works in software development for an American multi-national company.

Under normal circumstances we would mark Ciaran’s elevation to grandmaster with a presentation on behalf of the Association at the next major competition … perhaps (fingers crossed!) the Master Pairs in December. For now, we will have to recognise his achievement virtually, so we would ask you all to join us in congratulating him.
