Well done to the Galway Congress Committee, led by Louise Mitchell and David Walsh, on running an excellent congress over the weekend in the new venue of the Clybaun Hotel. Thanks also to TDs Fearghal O’Boyle, Mairead Basquille, and Diarmuid Reddan for ensuring everything went smoothly. The prizewinners in the various categories were:

  • Congress Pairs: Peter Goodman & Dan McIntosh
  • Mixed Pairs: Kieran & Mary Corban
  • Intermediate Pairs: Marion Keane & Margaret McCarthy
  • Swiss IMP Pairs: Sean Connor & Jim Doyle
  • Congress Teams: Ranald Milne, BJ O’Brien, Aoife MacHale, Peter Goodman
  • Restricted Teams: Gerry McCague, James Ward, Fiona Place, Carmel Murphy

And in Louisville, Kentucky, recently, Tom Hanlon continued his strong run in the quarterly North American Bridge Championships (NABCs) reaching the quarter-finals of the prestigious Vanderbilt Trophy, where his team lost narrowly to the number one seeds and eventual winners, and finishing third in the Jacoby Open Swiss Teams. If he, and his teammates, can keep up this level of performance, it’s only a matter of time before Tom wins his first major North American championship. Next up is the summer NABC in Toronto in July.
