The Pairs competition in the recent 16th World Bridge Series Championship in Wrocław, Poland, saw very fine performances from three Irish internationals. In a star-studded field, Tom Hanlon (partnering French international Frederick Volcker) finished in twelfth spot, with Adam Mesbur & Tommy Garvey only a few places behind in sixteenth. Even making it to the finals of the pairs competition was an achievement, given the strength of the field, which contained multiple World, European, and National champions, as you can see from the final standings.
Tom also got a very nice write up in the Championship Bulletin (page 8) for an inspired piece of declarer play.
