The CBAI hosted its first event of the new season on 17 September, with the Duais an Uachtarain (President’s Prize) being held in Cork Marts, Fermoy.

A big thank you to our hosts, CBAI President Pat O’Mahony and his South Munster colleagues, especially Regional Secretary Linda O’Riordan and Regional President Bernie O’Halloran, for their warm welcome and thorough preparation. The venue was excellent, and coped very efficiently with all the participants arriving for their meal break within a few minutes of each other. Thanks also to our Tournament Director Brian Lawlor, who overcame an early issue with some Bridgemates that hadn’t been used in nearly three years.

The competition was organised as a single-day event again this year, over two sessions rather than the usual three, to avoid any need for overnight accommodation. We were very pleased with the turnout of 57 pairs, and everyone seemed very pleased to be back at the table, some of them for the first time in almost three years.

The winners were BJ O’Brien & Derek O’Gorman, with Gordon Lessells & Rita Cassidy second, Marie James & Anthony Moloney third, and Mary & Tomás Roche fourth. The best Area Masters were Maura Foley & Oliver Morgan, while Joan Meagher & Anne Cronin were the best Intermediates. The first session prize went to Sean Connor & Jim Doyle, while junior internationals Isabel Burke & Tom Gorey took the second session prize. Full results here.
