The Camrose trials will take place over the bank holiday weekend in the Templeogue Bridge Centre as six teams compete for the honour of representing Ireland in the Camrose Trophy, to be held over two weekends in England in early-January and Scotland in early-March.

As with the Lady Milne trials in September, these trials will be held under strict health protocols, which unfortunately include a ban on kibitzers. You will however be able to follow the score live on Fearghal O’Boyle’s website. Our thanks to the players and TD Fearghal for their co-operation with these new protocols, and to the International Committee for working with us to ensure that the trials can take place safely in a live format.

The contending teams are:

  • Martin Brady, David Dunne, Paul Delaney, Tomás Roche
  • Mark Moran, John Carroll, Tom Hanlon, Tommy Garvey, Nick FitzGibbon, Adam Mesbur
  • BJ O’Brien, Terry Walsh, Derek O’Gorman, Peter Goodman, Micheál Ó Briain, Pádraig Ó Briain
  • Tom Gilligan, Dave Terry, Jim Doyle, Sean Connor
  • Peter Pigot, Ciaran Coyne, Enda Glynn, Gay Keaveney
  • Diarmuid Reddan, Louise Mitchell, Lucy Phelan, John Phelan

Best of luck to all, and may the best team win.

Two of our triallists, John Carroll and Tom Hanlon, recently featured in a New Tricks Bridge Club “Battle of the Partners”. We posted a link to episode one (which finished tied) a while back. The second and concluding episode is now available. We won’t give away the final outcome, but aspiring players will learn a lot from the analysis of top-level players in this series; a particularly notable lesson from this episode is the expert technique, on which John and Tom seem to be in complete agreement, of looking to pin the blame on Partner when things go awry, as they do for both of them on the first board of the set!
