As members will know, the CBAI’s AGM on Saturday 27 June voted unanimously in favour of the proposed amalgamation with the Northern Ireland Bridge Union (NIBU). The NIBU’s AGM on the same day also voted in favour, but subject to reviewing some outstanding legal documentation.
This process has taken a little longer than hoped, but it is now complete, and the NIBU will hold a special EGM on Saturday 5 September to confirm, or otherwise, their commitment to the amalgamation.
As a result, the operative date of the amalgamation, should it be approved, will be 1 January 2027 rather than 1 September 2026, as originally indicated. Members will recall that the resolution approved at the AGM allowed for a change of date, precisely to cater for circumstances like this.
