The Irish bridge community welcomes another published author. Keen player Annette Bryan launches her first book, Ollie and Me, at Ballyroan Library on Wednesday next, 3 December, at 5 p.m.

A fictional memoir inspired by real-life events, the book follows Ollie, a talented young sportsman whose dreams end abruptly when sudden kidney failure turns his life upside down. With the devoted support of his partner, Sam, Ollie fights illness and tries to rebuild his future. The book captures the emotional journey of illness, recovery, and renewed purpose.

The author hopes that the book will draw attention to the reality of kidney failure and the importance of organ donation. At the end of 2024, 559 people were on the waiting list for a kidney transplant in Ireland.

The launch will start at 5 p.m., and features two distinguished guest speakers, legendary broadcaster Joe Duffy and Mayor of South Dublin County Council, Cllr Pamela Kearns, both well-known for championing important health causes. All are welcome, and there will be drinks and refreshments, as well as an opportunity to buy a signed copy of the book. The book is also available to pre-order on the Irish website www.buythebook.ie.
