A reminder to all CBAI members about the WBF’s e-Bridge Cup, an inaugural individual online competition which, given the entry to date, will be the largest online bridge event ever created.
The key attractions are:
- A prize pool of $15,000;
- WBF, platform, and local federation masterpoints – the CBAI will review the appropriate level of masterpoint awards on completion of the event, but has indicated that genuine qualifiers (but not randomly selected ones, see below) for the Semi-Final phase will earn at least 0.5 National Points, and for the Final at least 1 National Point, and that we intend to be flexible and generous with awards, to encourage participation in this event;
- Some random placings will qualify, along with the top ranked players, so even if you don’t do very well, you still have a chance to qualify for the Semi-Final phase;
- 4 tournaments every day on both the Funbridge and BBO platforms, so you can play at your leisure.
There’s still plenty of time to enter the first qualification phase, which runs until 28 September. You need to play at least ten tournaments to qualify, but you can play as many as you like, with your best ten results to count. You play each tournament with a robot partner, and against robot opposition. There is no entry fee, but you will be charged the relevant platform fee for each tournament you play. The CBAI will generate a small fee for each Irish-registered player who takes part, so we have a small stake in your participation. Plus it would of course be very nice to see some Irish players finish on the podium or close to the top of the rankings. You’ll find full details on the e-Bridge Cup tournament here.
