Thanks to all who entered the anagram competition from the Newsletter, and to the Dromhall Hotel in Killarney for their generous offer of the lovely prize of a weekend for two in the newly refurbished hotel.

Everyone who responded got the answers right, although there were a few issues around the spelling of BINOMIAL ARCHIE’s actual name. The female international PEDALING RED is better known as Gilda Pender, and the male grandmaster masquerading as BINOMIAL ARCHIE is Micheal O Briain.

The winner was drawn randomly from the correct answers today. Congratulations to our winner Finola McDonald (Dun Laoghaire), and enjoy your weekend in Killarney. A runner-up prize of a €25 CBAI gift token goes to Phil Dempsey (Dunboyne). Better luck next time to all the unsuccessful entrants.

And while on matters cultural, another bridge player has joined the ranks of published authors. Former junior international Sarah Gilmartin, who is originally from Limerick, and learned her bridge in Laurel Hill School there, but now lives in Dublin and makes the occasional appearance at the Bankers BC, has recently published her first novel “Dinner Party: A Tragedy” to excellent reviews. It’s available from Easons and all good booksellers.
