One of the good things about recent lockdowns is that lots of people are getting more creative in the way they do things. We have a few new bridge resources to bring to your attention which we hope you will find useful.
New Tricks Bridge Club is an online resource dedicated to bringing bridge to the widest possible audience, through in-depth tutorials, teaching programmes aimed at schools, and entertaining gameplay and analysis from some of the world’s greatest players. They already have quite a bit of material available, including a recent “battle of the partners” video involving two Irish internationals, Tom Hanlon and John Carroll. You’ll find the first part here, with another segment to follow. Videos like these are a great way to develop an understanding of how the experts think at the bridge table.
Our own Thomas MacCormac has also created a YouTube channel with a variety of entertaining and instructive material. His most recent videos have been analyses of the recent European Zonal Qualifiers, but he has also a wealth of instructive material on both bidding and cardplay. You’ll find plenty to enjoy and learn at Thomas’s site.
Finally, those of you with Bridgewebs accounts will have received a communication from them announcing a number of enhancements that may be useful in the current climate, including an “Attendance” module to allow a club to monitor attendance fees if not using BB$ for their online activities; an ability to specify a forwarding address for replies to mailshots sent from the Bridgewebs server; and a “Bookings/Reservations” feature for clubs who may not be able to accommodate all members in a return to live bridge due to capacity constraints. If you did not receive this communication and any of these features are of interest to you, you can contact Bridgewebs for details.
