We are pleased to report that the Northern Ireland Bridge Union voted unanimously in favour of the proposed amalgamation with the CBAI at its special EGM on Saturday.

The amalgamation will therefore proceed, with an operative date of 1 January 2027. There is a good deal of preparatory work to be done in advance of this date, so the next three or four months will be very busy. We are looking forward to working with the NIBU to bring the new 32-county bridge body (tentatively “Bridge Ireland”) into being.

It is business-as-usual within the CBAI in the meantime (in relation to competitions, member registrations, committees, etc) and club secretaries have been, or will shortly be, provided with instructions via their regional committees on how things should be handled. If any member would like clarification of anything amalgamation-related in the meantime, please contact Head Office on (01) 4929666.

PS Very well done to Rebecca (O’Keeffe) Brown & Gilda Pender, who finished a very creditable fifth in a high-quality field in the Women’s Pairs event in the World Bridge Series in Katowice.
