We are sad to report the death of David Redmond, of Celbridge, after an illness, bravely borne.
David was a top-ranked player, especially in his long and very successful partnership with Liam Gaynor. But he also made a very significant contribution to bridge in the West Dublin/East Kildare area over many years. For clubs in Celbridge, Lucan, Palmerstown, and Clondalkin, David was teacher, mentor, tournament director, scorer, dealer, virtual club organiser, and general inspiration.
David did all this work modestly, and without ever seeking reward or acclaim. He was the recipient of a special award from the CBAI last December for his services to bridge, and the clubs held a night in his honour. He began his acceptance speech by saying he was humbled by the award and could see others in the room that he felt had done more for bridge than he had, and concluded it by stating that, whatever he had given to bridge, he had got a lot more back from it, and from the people he had met through it.
We extend our condolences to David’s wife Teresa, his children Cathy, Sinead, Aisling, and Sean, his grandchildren, and all his extended family and many friends. The bridge community will miss his warm presence. Funeral details to follow.
